About PDF Editor
HogPDF's PDF editor opens your file right in the browser, so you can add text, fill in a form, sign a document or mark it up without installing anything — and without your PDF ever being uploaded.
How to edit a PDF online
- 1
Upload your PDF
Drop a PDF (up to 25 MB) onto the page or choose it from your device. Every page opens in the editor, one below the other.
- 2
Pick a tool from the toolbar
Use Text, Links, Forms, Images, Sign, Whiteout, Annotate or Shapes, then click or drag on the page where you want it.
- 3
Change what's already there
Click any line of text on the page and edit it where it sits. If a page's text is a scan or drawn as outlines, the editor reads it on your device so you can click it too. To cover other content, use Whiteout and add new Text on top. Move, resize, recolour or delete anything you've added.
- 4
Manage your pages
Rotate or delete a page, insert a blank page, zoom in on detail, or open the Pages panel to drag pages into a new order.
- 5
Apply changes and download
Click Apply changes to build the finished PDF, then download it.
What you can do with the PDF editor
Add and format text
Click anywhere to type. Make it bold or italic, pick the size, font and colour, add a link, or duplicate it to repeat a line.
Edit text where it is
Click a line of existing text and change it in place. The new wording matches the original font and colour wherever the PDF allows it.
Whiteout and replace
Draw a white box over text you want to change, then type the replacement on top of it.
Sign a PDF
Type, draw or upload your signature and place it anywhere. It's a visual signature, not a certified digital one.
Add images and links
Place a logo, stamp or photo, and turn any area into a clickable link to a web address or another page in the document.
Highlight and mark up
Highlight, underline or strike through passages, or draw freehand, with a choice of colours.
Shapes, ticks and crosses
Draw rectangles, ellipses, lines and arrows, or drop in a check mark or cross to tick off a form.
Add form fields
Add text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons and date fields that anyone can fill in with a normal PDF reader.
Rotate, delete, insert and reorder pages
Fix a sideways scan, drop pages you don't need, add blank pages and drag pages into a new order.
Good to know
- Your PDF stays on your device. Editing and exporting both happen in your browser, and nothing is uploaded to a server.
- Whiteout and edited text cover the original so it can't be seen on the page, but neither removes it from the file. Don't rely on them to redact sensitive information.
- Edited text uses the PDF's own font when it contains the letters you type. PDFs usually embed only the letters they use, so otherwise a similar font is used and you're told. Text you add with the Text tool uses the standard PDF fonts (Helvetica, Times and Courier). Characters the fonts don't include, such as some non-Latin scripts, can't be saved.
- Scanned PDFs are pictures of pages, so there's no text to select. The editor reads such pages with OCR on your device so you can click their lines, or you can turn the scan into a Word document with Scanned Doc to Word. OCR can misread, so check the text, and the fonts it picks are look-alikes.
- Password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked first — use Unlock PDF, then bring the file back here.
- Files up to 25 MB are supported.
PDF editor FAQ
- How do I edit text in a PDF online?
- Upload your PDF, click the line of text you want to change and type the new wording. Click Apply changes to download the result. If the PDF's text is a scan or outlines, the editor reads it for you first. It all runs in your browser, so there's nothing to install.
- Is it safe to edit a confidential PDF here?
- Your file never leaves your device. Editing and exporting run in your browser using JavaScript, nothing is uploaded to a server, and the file is discarded when you close the tab.
- Do I need an account or any software?
- You don't need an account. Preview the result free, then a download costs Ksh 10, or Ksh 5 with an account. There's nothing to download — open the page, drop in your PDF and start editing.
- Does Whiteout permanently remove text?
- No. Whiteout draws a white box over the content, so it's hidden on the page, but the original text is still inside the file. Editing a line of text works the same way: the new wording is drawn over the original. If you need to permanently redact sensitive information, use a dedicated redaction tool.
- Can I edit a scanned PDF?
- Yes. A scan is a picture, so the editor reads each page with OCR on your device as you reach it, and nothing is uploaded. Then click a line and retype it. OCR can misread, so check the text, and the font is a look-alike rather than the original. You can also convert the scan to an editable Word document with our Scanned Doc to Word tool.
- Can I edit a password-protected PDF?
- Unlock it first with our Unlock PDF tool by entering its password, then open the unlocked copy in the editor.
- Can I add my signature to a PDF?
- Yes. Choose Sign, then type, draw or upload your signature and click where it should go. It's a visual signature rather than a certified digital signature.
- Can I make a PDF fillable?
- Yes. The Forms menu adds text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons and date fields that people can fill in using any normal PDF reader.
- How large a PDF can I edit?
- Up to 25 MB.
