Compress PDF, Images, Word & Excel Files
Smaller files, same format
Drop your file here
or pick it from your device
Files stay on your device — nothing is uploaded. Image, PDF, DOCX or XLSX up to 25 MB.
About Compress File
HogPDF makes a PDF, image, Word or Excel file smaller without changing its format. Pick a quality level or set a target size and the file is re-compressed in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
How to reduce a file's size
- 1
Upload your file
Drop a PDF, image (JPG, PNG or WEBP), Word (.docx) or Excel (.xlsx) file, up to 25 MB, onto the page or choose it from your device.
- 2
Choose quality or a target size
Use the slider to balance size and quality, or switch to Target size and enter the size you're aiming for in MB.
- 3
Compress
Click Compress file. We re-compress the images inside your file right in your browser.
- 4
Compare and download
See the original and new sizes side by side, then download the smaller file in the same format.
What it can compress
Images
JPG, PNG and WEBP images are re-encoded at lower quality and resolution.
PDFs
JPEG images embedded in a PDF are re-compressed. Everything else in the PDF is left untouched.
Word and Excel files
Pictures embedded in .docx and .xlsx files are re-compressed and the file is repacked more tightly.
Quality slider or target size
Pick how much quality to give up, or tell us the size you need and we'll get as close as we can without going over.
Same format out
A PDF stays a PDF and a .docx stays a .docx — nothing is converted.
See the savings
You see the original and new sizes, and a plain note if a file couldn't be made meaningfully smaller.
Good to know
- PDF compression is best-effort. We re-compress the JPEG images inside a PDF but leave other content alone, so text-only PDFs and scans stored in other image formats may not shrink much.
- Lower quality means less sharp images. PNG images shrink by reducing their resolution.
- A target size is a goal, not a guarantee. Very text-heavy files may not reach it.
- If a file is already smaller than your target, it's returned as it is.
- Your file never leaves your device.
- Files up to 25 MB are supported.
Compress file FAQ
- How do I compress a PDF?
- Upload the PDF, choose a quality level or a target size, and click Compress file. We re-compress the JPEG images inside it in your browser, then you download the smaller PDF.
- Can I compress a PDF to a specific size like 200 KB?
- Yes, if the file can get that small. Switch to Target size and enter 0.2 MB, and we'll get as close as we can without going over. PDFs that are mostly text, or whose images aren't JPEGs, may not shrink that far.
- Does compression reduce quality?
- For images, yes — lower settings mean less sharpness. Text in a PDF isn't touched, so it stays crisp.
- Why didn't my PDF get much smaller?
- Most of a PDF's size usually comes from its images. If yours is mostly text, or its images are already efficiently stored, there's little to save. We'll tell you when that's the case.
- Which file types can I compress?
- PDF, JPG, PNG, WEBP, Word (.docx) and Excel (.xlsx), up to 25 MB.
- Is my file uploaded?
- No. The compression runs in your browser, so the file stays on your device.
